A Message from Karen Pimentel, Manalapan Township Senior Center Assistant:

As many of you already know, our cherished friend and beloved Director, Elaine McNamara, retired after 34 years as the Manalapan Township Senior Center Director. I would like to thank Elaine for her dedication and many years of service, as well as her support as I transitioned into my role with the Manalapan Township Senior Center.

For those that don’t know me, please let me introduce myself. My name is Karen Pimentel.  I have been a resident of Manalapan for 26 years and have been very involved in our community. I raised a family and worked in our beautiful town prior to accepting this wonderful opportunity.  It is an honor to follow in the footsteps of Elaine who built a remarkable program for the Manalapan Township Senior Citizens.

I am extremely thankful and appreciative to be working with our senior community. I enjoy seeing all of your beautiful, smiling faces on a regular basis and it truly warms my heart on how welcoming you have all been. I want you to know that I will do my best to serve our community of seniors. Please know, I am very approachable and welcome your ideas. I will listen to you open-mindedly with the goal of targeting our programming toward your interests. I understand and recognize the importance of change and individuality. Keeping our senior center current and interesting is most important and your input is valuable to our success.

As I continue planning the senior center programming, it is my objective to make sure we welcome new members and provide them with opportunities to participate while continuing to meet the needs of our seasoned members. To become a member of the Manalapan Township Senior Center, please register in person or refer to the Township website to obtain the registration forms.  Go to www.mtnj.org, under the “Departments” section, under the “Senior Center” tab, under “Forms.”  On the website, you will also find the monthly calendar as well as information on special events or upcoming bus trips.

My goal is to keep you actively involved doing enjoyable things that sustain your health, both mentally and physically. To successfully register for activities and classes, please refer to the Activity Registration Form under the “Forms” tab on our website. Be sure to complete the registration form in its entirety.  Due to capacity limits, classes will be filled on a first come/first served basis. If you do not receive your preferred class session, I will do my best to satisfy your request at a future time. For safety reasons, please be aware that you cannot casually drop in for a class. I will review attendance throughout the year to determine if additional classes are needed, based on demand and available funding.

Bingo is always fun for our members as it provides an opportunity to meet new friends.  Please note, it is important to register for bingo.  The bingo registration form is located under the “Forms” tab on our website.

Please remember, senior activities/classes take place at the Manalapan Township Community Center located at 114 Route 33 in Manalapan Township on the west bound side just past the Peking Pavilion Restaurant.

There is one last important detail I would like to share. Manalapan Township Senior Center is funded by a grant along with the support of Manalapan Township. Our seniors do not pay a registration fee and classes are complimentary.  As a requirement to sustain the grant, we are expected to make the best use of the funds and we are required to report all class attendance to substantiate our funding. Therefore, if you have been put into a class and are frequently absent we will reserve the right to offer your spot to a person on the waiting list. We understand that unexpected things happen which might cause some unplanned absences. However, if you have an unforeseen circumstance that requires recurring absences, please let me know so we can work together to develop a resolution.

In closing, I want to thank you for your kindness and patience as I transition into my new role. I appreciate all of the support you have shown to me and the relationships I have already built are invaluable. You have become my second family in such a short amount of time and are all very special to me. I look forward to working together to make the Manalapan Township Senior Center one of the best!

Best wishes always,

Karen Pimentel,

Senior Center Assistant
