Manalapan Senior Center Wraps Up A Busy Month!

June 04, 2019

The Manalapan Senior Center was very busy during the month of May! We kicked off the month celebrating Older Americans Month with Mayor Susan Cohen issuing a Proclamation to honor our community of senior citizens. This year’s theme is Connect, Create & Contribute and as we close out the month long celebration we can say that we did just that!

Our seniors connected with the Manalapan Teen Leadership Committee and did an intergenerational craft project thanks to their help! The teens gathered to prep our supplies for the craft so that the seniors were each given a kit and instructed on how to create jewelry with paper beads, led by Senior Center assistant, Melinda Dalton. The seniors were so pleased with the bracelets that they made.

On May 8th our senior volunteer knitters were honored for their beautiful work. They make baby blankets, baby hats and sweater sets that get donated to many charitable organizations that help families in need and crisis. Baby Bundles donations were distributed to the following organizations: 180 Turning Lives Around, Madonna House, Community Affairs and Resource Center, The Center for Great Expectations and CentraState Healthcare System.

Our seniors joined by Mayor Cohen and Committeewoman Musich also enjoyed a day trip out to Media, Pennsylvania where they had a delicious lunch at Fellini Café and then saw a production of “Saturday Night Fever” at the Media Theatre.

We also had a presentation from Fulfill, formerly the Foodbank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties. Fulfill works to alleviate hunger and build food security in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

To close out the month Elaine McNamara, Director of the Manalapan Senior Center, celebrated the anniversary of her 30th year working at the Manalapan Senior Center. She thanked all of the seniors for their kindness, support, friendships and the continued opportunity to offer great programs, trips, classes and events, always with the goal of making each day worthwhile.
